On December 12-13, 2006, we convened a strategic planning conference on the topic of
“Leadership Role of Universities in the Development of Altai Republic” at Siberian Academy
for Public Administration, using Open Space Technology format and facilitated by Marina Tyasto.

The conference was initiated by Altai Mir University and Siberian Academy for Public Administration
to bring together the results of the November 2006 strategic planning conference “Sustainable
Communication System in Altai Republic,” in Gorno-Altaisk and the main themes resulting from
the September 2006 GUS/Altai Mir Fact-Finding Mission, specifically regarding the role of universities
in the sustainable development of Altai. It was sponsored by Altai Mir University, Siberian Academy
for Public Administration, Novosibirsk State Medical University, Gorno-Altaisk State University, and
Russian NGO “Connect.”

About 30 people participated, with open discussions on the first day, and presentations of action plans on the second day.
